In a few days, specifically on August 17⸴2023, the first Red Dead Redemption will be released for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, followed by a physical version on October 13. The PC once again misses out, and the fans' reactions to this announcement could not be clearer.
Too few innovations, too high a price: this is the main criticism from the community. In an investor call, Take-2 CEO Strauss Zelnick has now added fuel to the fire.
A fair price? As reported by Kotaku and IGN, some interesting statements were made by the Take-2 management during the conversation with the investors. Especially the price of the remaster » which amounts to 50 euros « was discussed.
According to Strauss Zelnick, the price is economically appropriate. When later asked if the high price tag was due to the inclusion of the Undead Nightmare DLC, he replied:
[Red Dead Redemption] was a great standalone game when it was originally released and we feel that it is a great package for the first time and certainly good value for consumers.
What does he mean by "the first time"? At least among Switch users; there are also a number of voices that are excited about the new version. No wonder – as Nintendo players can finally experience a great adventure with John Marston as well.
Fans are angry - now more than ever The statements made by Strauss Zelnick are not well received in the community - surprise, surprise. It didn't take long for the first memes with his quote to appear on Reddit:
The comments are as passionate as usual. One user writes, for example:
No multiplayer no DLCs except UN no improvements, no additional content.
But 50 buckeroonies are economically appropriate.
The top comment in the linked thread above probably sums up the harsh economic reality best: If people are willing to pay for it, then it's right. If you want to prove the opposite to them [Take 2], don't buy it.
What do you think of the new statements by Take-2 CEO Strauss Zelnick? Do you agree with him at least from an economic point of view? Or does this wild head-shaking cause you whiplash? Will you get the remaster of Red Dead Redemption for the Switch or the PS4? Feel free to write your opinions in the comments!
